Philippians 4:11-13 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through him who gives me strength.
Well, it is not always every day that I am content! Some days are better than others, and all I want in these situations is to have everything work out my way. But knowing what the word of God says is not enough; we need to practice it (James 2:17).
Just because you got a job shouldn’t be where you find happiness. And just because you are having troubles with your family, that shouldn’t take away all your joy either!
Say Amen if you agree that sometimes you don’t want to be content; you just want things to work out! In difficult times, we don’t want the strength to do all things; we want a smooth sale to Noproblemland.
Thanks be to God for Jesus that we are saved and that God is always by our side.
I learned three simple things this week:
- There is always something about me that will disappoint ME. God knows our limitations, but we don’t. That is why we allow our own mistakes and frustrations to bring us in a place of discontentment in ourselves and in God. Therefore exchange worry with asking your soul to praise the name of Jesus (Psalm 103)
- External matters have an impact on your soul if you place them above God. Everything you constantly keep in your mind will affect the way you pray (if you pray!), how you act with people and God. Hence stop thinking about it and pray about it (Philippians 4:6)
- Just let go and let God. Always seek improvements but let God guide your life, for he will never leave you nor forsake you. Therefore, do not be afraid; do not be discouraged (Deuteronomy 31:8)
He alone has the answer to our search for contentment!
Lasting happiness comes from the one who created all things and knows all things, including you!
“we could not be happy and contented apart from God” (Graham, 1955).
