We can’t do many regular activities today because of the lockdown, and many of us are struggling with finding ways to stay busy. Also, in these daily struggles, we wonder whether God will come through for us tomorrow.
John 2:7-8 Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” When the jars had been filled, he said, “Now dip some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So the servants followed his instructions. (NLT)
This passage is about the time Jesus turned water into wine because the wedding ran out of wine. However, we want to focus on the servants’ attitude. The servants knew that the jars were filled with water because they filled them, yet they had the boldness to serve their master that same drink.
There are two things that we can learn from this passage:
- Believing in God is trusting in his power and hoping for what we can’t see (Romans 8:24). The servants didn’t focus on what they saw; they believed what Jesus said.
- God wants to involve us in the miracles that he wants to accomplish in our lives. Jesus had the power to make wine out of nothing, yet He chose to include the servants in the miracle, which was a life-changing experience for them. All the servants had to do was to fill ordinary jars with water, believe and serve.
Whatever the ordinary jars look like right now for you, fill them!
For instance, take time to read, meditate, send sermon links to friends, work on that unrealistic book or just rest. God will use the jars you are filling now, and all he needs from you is to believe that great things can come out of this challenging time.
God wants to use you to transform something plain into something amazing. Keep filling the JARS!
