A couple of weeks back, I went to evangelise with a friend, and we had a fascinating question. This young lady asked us:
“Why should I believe in Jesus when I have an aunt who believes in God, and yet she has cancer and has never had an easy life?“
I was like: Holy Spirit; if you don’t show up, we are burnt! Thank God He never left us even for a second.
Her perspective of Jesus was related to circumstances but God is good no matter what we are going through. The day Adam and Eve sinned the world became a challenging place (it’s another story if you don’t believe in God as a creator). We have sicknesses, pain, racism, and you name it. However, all the sin in the world doesn’t take away what Jesus did on that cross for us.
Everything going on in the world reminds us that Jesus is the way the truth and the life (John 14:6), nothing out there can save us! Believing in Jesus doesn’t just give us peace in this life; it also gives us hope for eternal life (John 3:16).
This lady wanted a feel-good God, but Jesus was after her heart. Now, the lady also had some back pain, and my friend asked if we could pray for her, which we did. Her back pain reduced, and she could feel a huge difference.
I believe God wanted to tell her and is telling us today that our problems don’t mean that God is not working; maybe our hearts are just not well-positioned to see God’s power even in the chaos!
It was not about the miracle it was about her heart!
It is not about what God can do for you; it is about whether your heart is fully surrendered to Him.
