2 Timothy 1: 14 says: ‘guard the truth that has been entrusted to you by the Holy Spirit who dwells within us.’
I love that this verse doesn’t say we need to guard our own truth of what makes us feel better but the truth that the Holy Spirit will give us.
Around this time of the year, the city of Nijmegen where I live organised an international four days marches, and many people came from all over the world to participate. The city centre was always full during those four days. I had the grace to be able to do a part-time job in the city during this festive event, and God showed me something that made my heart melt.
We live in the most dangerous generation, where the truth is a matter of perspective. The society all around us love sin and say sin is “fun” while chaining each other to eternal bondage.
- Sin is where everyone goes; and the Bible already told us to “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. Matthew 7:13-14
- Sin is what everyone wants to listen to and talk about
- Sin is the identity that everyone wants to wear
I didn’t know all these people in the city around where I was working, but it broke my heart so much that they didn’t have the truth in their heart. And this made me think of the number of times our sins pain God and yet his only son already died for our sins so we can have eternal life. No matter where we are God welcomes us to his home as sons and daughters, and all we have to do is open the door of our hearts for the mighty God to come in.
In the middle of all this, there is a TRUTH, and that’s the truth about Jesus Christ that we shouldn’t be ashamed to share because we have the Holy Spirit in us that will guide us to share this truth with love and kindness.
In that lost crowd there were someone’s father, mother, daughter, son, friend, coworker, husband, wife and the list continues; our tasks as Christians is to SHARE the truth that Jesus Christ has entrusted us his faithful men and women of God who will be able to teach others also (2 Timothy 2:2)
Next week’s post will be about how my friend and I went to the city centre during this event to share the word of God and pray with strangers.
