This week as I was sharing a meal with friends, one of my friends Koen mentioned that “God is God, and that is good”; because a lot of time when we say “God is good and that is his nature” we quickly run our minds toward “God giving us only good things because he is good”.
Don’t get me wrong, God is good all the time, but his goodness is a character of him being God. Unfortunately, many of us only focus on the fact that God is good and if we are good, then that’s enough.
This entire week as I was praying with strangers Jesus made a way for me to meet with people almost going through the same things. I met 2 Christian ladies in different cities and different circumstances, but both of them were searching for their “own truth” and they felt like the mightiness of God was too limiting.
I quote “God is good and tells us to be good, then I think I am a good person, and I don’t need to follow Jesus to go to heaven, right?”
Interesting! We focus so much on our actions and forget about the crucial part of salvation: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God not by works, so that no one can boast”. Ephesians 2:8-9
I love that the more I spoke to this lady, the Holy Spirit connected her to this specific verse because she said: “If I say that I am good then I need to measure my actions and compare them with other people that don’t do what I do which just makes me arrogant”. Exactly, we can only boast about our actions because we think we earn them and deserve them, but Jesus Christ died for us despite what we do good or bad.
We are all imperfect whether we believe or not and that’s why today I want to tell you that it is good that God is God because he is Perfect and Holy and despite our weaknesses, he wants us to be just like him.
Matthew 5:48 “Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
1 Peter 1:15-16 “But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: ‘Be holy, because I am holy.’”
We can’t do it alone; that is why we have the Holy Spirit to guide us. There is always going to be options out there to bring you temporary peace or a sort of life purpose. However, until you receive the grace of God through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our sins, you will be searching for a long time.
Thank you Jesus Christ for being so close to us.
