Don’t we all love free stuff? At least I know I do. But most free things in society are either of poor quality or less valuable. Because practical adults believe that we can’t give “our best” for free; people need to earn what they receive.
Unfortunately, we approach God with the same mentality that our works make us lovable to God.
Last week I was having some step backs in evangelism, and I spent time with God the entire week and asked him to enable me to pray with two people this week, and Jesus answered my payers because the Bible says in John 15:7 that “If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.”
Whatever step backs, you are currently facing in your life, ask God to use it for a fresh start.
My fresh start was this week as I saw God move in my life again. God gave me specific descriptions of the two people he wanted me to talk to on the street. These people don’t know me, and I surely don’t know them, but God does, and he already died on the cross for all of us.
The first lady I interrupted on the street was thrilled and surprised that I was talking to her about Jesus. She said she needed me to speak to her because she was at that point in her life where she was searching for God. And here I come BOOM, with a message from Jesus. Dear readers, God only knows the kind of love you need because he is love. So, whatever you are searching for, God knows that you are searching and he wants you to find him in the process.
The second person, however, couldn’t care less about what I was saying. He believed that it was “absurd” to believe in God because we can’t see him. And he said to me that if there was a God out there, he surely loves him because he is a “good person”.
The beauty of Jesus is that he loves both the first and the second person. God reminded me that many of his children are lost because they believe that they can earn God’s love; and when people reach a level of “goodness” according to the world’s standard, then they feel like they don’t need God anymore.
God’s love is free, and you don’t need to try hard to be loved by God because he already sent his only son to die on the cross for us. However, we have to be willing to receive this gift that we didn’t earn or deserve. We are called for way more. We can’t imagine more for ourselves because we are basing “our best” based on only what we have experienced in our lives or other people’s lives. Jeremiah 29:11 says that God knows the plans he has for you; plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
